Can I pay for mySugr with HSA/FSA funds in the United States?
In the United States, Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) and Health Savings Accounts (HSA) are programs that allow you to set aside money (before taxes) for eligible healthcare expenses, enabling effective cost savings of 20-40% depending on your tax rate.
The cost of a mySugr app membership is an eligible healthcare expense, however we recommend checking with your HSA or FSA provider, as eligibility rules can vary by plan and employer. Some providers may also require additional documentation for reimbursement.
Currently it is not possible to use FSA/HSA debit cards directly on the app store or play store, however there is a standard method for reimbursement that you can follow:
- Find your subscription order confirmation email and take a screenshot. If you can't locate your confirmation, contact our support team.
- File a claim. Go to your FSA or HSA provider's website to fill out a claim form. Upload your order confirmation of a mySugr subscription as proof of purchase.
- Submit your claim. Submit your claim and any other required supporting documentation directly with your FSA or HSA provider.
- If you need additional support filing a claim or have questions on eligible expenses, please contact your FSA or HSA provider.
Do I need a Letter of Medical Necessity (LOMN) / Additional evidence?
Check with your FSA/HSA plan provider, some providers may require a letter of medical necessity from a health care professional. You can also share the fact that mySugr is a medical device registered with the FDA and the intended use of the mySugr app is “to be used to support the treatment of diabetes through daily diabetes related data management and aims to support the optimization of therapy”.
Is it time sensitive?
Many FSAs have a strict “use-it-or-lose-it” mandate, meaning any money left over at the end of each year is often forfeited, ask your FSA/HSA provider about this.
Disclaimer: Reimbursement is subject to rules and restrictions of your specific FSA/HSA provider and not all mySugr members will qualify.
